Newly Formed Black Restaurant Coalition Aims to Encourage Patrons to support local Black Owned Restaurants
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - CuisineWire -- The Black Restaurant Coalition is a group of predominantly Black-owned bars & restaurants whose businesses serve the city of Brooklyn and beyond. These business owners formed an alliance to provide support for each other and also to share business strategies to address the increasing challenges facing bar & restaurant owners in NYC.
Thousands of once promising, thriving restaurants have closed down permanently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many that were able to survive are now sounding the alarm of impending doom if relief in some form doesn't happen soon. The cost of goods has been impacted by record inflation affecting the economy and the supply chain disruption has impacted the availability and consistency of the food at the dining table.
In an unprecedented effort to keep NYC residents safe and protected, bar & restaurant owners have upheld the 'Key to NYC' COVID-19 mandate while absorbing economic losses ranging from 40% -70%. The financial assistance in grants, loans, and debt abatement plans that were once available at the beginning of the pandemic have all but dried up making it that much tougher for these struggling businesses to survive.

Unfortunately, the positive media coverage and public support we once received has diminished and in some cases, has been outright negative towards our establishments. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone how much we love this city that has given us an opportunity to pursue our dreams while providing some of the best dining experiences in the world and that "WE ARE OPEN!" for indoor/outdoor dining and for take-out orders for the entire population.
On December 26th, the 20+ restaurants that make up the Brooklyn Restaurant Coalition will be celebrating the spirit of unity as we come together to support each other by visiting each other's businesses to shine a light on the fact that "WE ARE OPEN!" and we hope to see you there!
