Texas Sake Ambassador to represent the United States at the renowned international sake competition in Japan
AUSTIN, Texas - CuisineWire -- Genji Sake, a leading craft Japanese sake distributor in Texas is excited to announce the selection of Marketing Director Lora Blackwell as the U.S. Representative Los Angeles Finalist for the 6th World Kikisake-shi Competition.
The World Sake Sommelier Competition brings together the victors of each country's preliminary rounds to compete for the title of world's champion sake sommelier. A successful competitor is expected to impart the art of enjoyment and value of Japanese sake and shochu, two staples of Japanese cuisine, in a clear and accurate manner.
The Sake School of America, at the forefront of sake education in the U.S., hosted the qualifying rounds for the sake sommelier competition. Participants were graded on their resume, an essay, and a service role-playing scenario, to earn entry into the final rounds in Tokyo.

Blackwell is thrilled to join fine competitors from around the globe in this competition as the representative of both Texas and the West Coast. Together with her employer, Genji Sake, she hopes this accolade will further the appreciation for these unique Japanese beverages in Texas. Blackwell is one of a strong team of certified sake sommeliers at Genji Sake, a Texas distributor with an education-focused approach to building the sake and shochu demand in Texas. As a company offering regular Sake 101 classes free of charge to restaurants and retailers, Genji Sake has offered ample opportunities for Blackwell to prepare the necessary skill set to compete at the highest level in February 2025.
