The Hojicha Hanko Design is Now a Registered Trademark in the USA
NEW YORK - CuisineWire -- HOJICHA TRADING CO. LTD. (Hojicha Co.) announces the approval and official registration of the Hojicha Hanko trademark by the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
Created by designer Chihiro Segi, the minimalist Hojicha Hanko symbol is inspired by the Japanese hanko stamp. The elegant thin lines within the round symbol and the red-orange rising sun form the word "HOJICHA" in latin script. The circle is intentionally left incomplete to represent the beauty of imperfection in nature.
"The Hojicha Hanko is a symbol of authenticity and quality for Japanese roasted green tea," explained Francois Mathieu, co-founder of Hojicha Co. "It makes it easier for customers to identify and purchase authentic hojicha made in Kyoto, Japan."
The Hojicha Hanko was originally registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (International Trademark Registration No. 1670460) under Class 30 for Japanese green tea. It was already granted protection in the United Kingdom in September 2022.

"This trademark will help the US Customs & Border Protection stop counterfeit products from entering the United States, and it will help us protect our intellectual property online," added the co-founder of Hojicha Co.
The Hojicha Hanko is currently printed on the label of each bag of Japanese roasted green tea distributed by Hojicha Co., as well as merchandise such as the Hojicha Hanko Tote and teaware such as the Katakuchi Tea Bowl.
