EAST SETAUKET, N.Y. - CuisineWire -- Médoc: The Crown Jewel of Bordeaux
The Médoc, located in the Bordeaux region of France, is one of the most prestigious wine-producing areas in the world. With its deep-rooted history, renowned estates, and exceptional terroir, the wines of the Médoc have captivated collectors and enthusiasts alike for centuries.
The 1855 Classification: A Legacy of Excellence
One of the most defining moments in the history of Médoc wines was the establishment of the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, which was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon III for the Exposition Universelle in Paris. - Château Latour
- Château Margaux
- Château Mouton Rothschild (elevated to First Growth status in 1973)
- Château Haut-Brion (from Graves, but included in the classification)
Beyond the First Growths, the Médoc is home to many esteemed Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Growths, which continue to produce some of the finest wines in the world …
