OAKRIDGE, Ore. - CuisineWire -- The Oregon Office of Rural Health honors Orchid Health's co-founder and executive director Orion Falvey with the Oregon Rural Health Hero of the Year Award. The award honors an outstanding person, program or organization that has improved the quality and availability of health care in rural communities.

Orchid Health opened its first location in Oakridge in 2014. In 2016, Orchid Health opened the Estacada Clinic, which was awarded the School-Based Health Clinic of the Year for Clinical Excellence in 2018. In 2019 they opened their third clinic in Blue River, Oregon.

The award honors Falvey's efforts to make healthcare accessible to all. The local clinics are known for creating and leading community events, fundraisers, and donation drives. During the 2019 blizzard storm, their Oakridge clinic coordinated generator delivery and oxygen delivery to at-risk patients.

In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Orchid Health retained all their employees and offered free telehealth visits to any resident. When the Holiday Farm Fire broke out in the McKenzie River Valley and Orchid Health lost their third clinic, Falvey committed to care in the valley by organizing team members and partnering with local organizations to provide a mobile clinic.

By using a compassionate and relationship-based care model, Falvey hopes to shift health-related conversations in rural Oregon by providing support for care, mental health resources, and making a positive impact in their communities.

"It all starts with employee happiness," Falvey says, "without cultivating the same compassion and relationships that we offer our patients, none of this would be possible." The award, Falvey goes on to say "is only made possible because of the efforts of our team, it truly goes to them first."
