SOUTHAM, U.K. - CuisineWire -- Leading packaging manufacturer, Tournaire, has introduced a new BPA-free coating for their lacquered aluminium bottles. This innovative VSB finish is free from BPA and all other bisphenols, whilst still providing the durable protection necessary for concentrates and chemicals. The announcement comes ahead of the EU's ban on the use of BPAs, which comes into force in July. Mainland UK is still waiting for the outcome of the FSA's proposed BPA ban, but it seems likely that it will be ratified, aligning Britain with Europe and Northern Ireland.
The new BPA-free bottles are available exclusively from Invopak, giving businesses the opportunity to be fully compliant ahead of any legislation. Whatever the UK government decides, there are other reasons why it pays for food businesses to be proactive in removing BPAs from their packaging.
The importance of choosing BPA-free packaging
BPAs can potentially leach into foods, particularly at higher temperatures. This is of concern because research suggests that BPAs can interfere with endocrine disruptors affecting the reproductive system, immune system and foetal development. Increased public awareness of the potential harm of BPAs means it makes sense for food and beverage businesses to use BPA-free packaging.

Food businesses that export goods into the EU will need to be compliant with BPA regulations from July 20th 2026. The EU's ban on BPA includes any material that is consumable-facing. This means everything from single-use water bottles to buckets, flexible liners, laminations, adhesives and varnishes is also affected, and must be certified BPA-free.
As Scott Sandilands, Invopak's (https://invopak.co.uk/) CRO, explains, "If BPA is fully banned in the UK, and all the pointers so far suggest that it will be, UK food businesses should speak to their packaging supplier to check whether they will be affected. Doing so early also gives food producers time to test alternative products if necessary, ahead of any legislative changes. Tournaire is really leading the way when it comes to metal food packaging, and we're pleased to be partnering with them in bringing these products to the UK-market."
